The FAO have just published its last report "Food Insecurity in the World 2009". It deals with economical crisis (again, sadly) and poverty, with this terrible fact: 1,02 billion of hungry people
in the world.
"The rising number of hungry people is intolerable. We have the economic and technical means to make hunger disappear, what is missing is a stronger political will to eradicate hunger forever.
Investing in agriculture in developing countries is key as a healthy agricultural sector is essential not only to overcome hunger and poverty but also to ensure overall economic growth and peace
and stability in the world," said FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf.
Farmers need more support for their agriculture and I guess each governement but also NGOs have to look at all the desertic areas.
I am on my way to visit some countries in Africa and my colleagues there told me that the situation for them and their families is really critical. Regarding to this report, I can definitely
understand why.
Please look at the report, which includes case studies from several countries.
